In a series of tweets, Musk said Apple had stopped advertising on Twitter and was pressuring Twitter with demands over content moderation. “Apple has almost stopped advertising on Twitter.Do you hate free speech in the US?” Musk tweeted. In another tweet, he tagged the Twitter account of Apple CEO Tim Cook, writing, "What the hell is going on?" He also said "yes" to a user's question about whether Apple was warning about banning Twitter from the App Store and making demands around content moderation.
Apple declined to comment when contacted by Reuters. Randall Picker, a professor at the University of Chicago Law School, said: "I don't know how far this idea has permeated Apple. ' said. According to advertising research firm Pathmatics, Apple spent an estimated $131,600 on Twitter ads between November 10 and 16. It was down from $220,800 on Oct. 16-22, the week before Musk's acquisition of Twitter closed.
Many companies have stopped advertising on Twitter following Musk's acquisition of Twitter. Musk also tweeted a series of complaints about Apple charging software developers up to 30% in-app purchase fees. He posted a post suggesting that he would "go to war" with Apple rather than pay a fee. Fees could weigh on Mr. Musk's efforts to boost Twitter's subscription revenue, as they make up for losses from advertiser drain.
Ben Bajarin, head of consumer technology at research firm Creative Strategies, said Musk may have read too much into Apple's normal app review process.
